We have had a wonderful year in preschool this year. (As opposed to our less-than-stellar experience last year.) Gee really blossomed and had a great time, almost every single day. I'm so sorry that Miss B. won't be coming back next year, but she and her husband are going on a mission next year, so I can't be too sad. His classroom aides were amazing, and at least one will be there next year. We're thinking about doing the same preschool next year, but apparently there is some talk about sending Gee to the Title 1 preschool at Park instead. (When Miss B. told me this, she said that there was no problem at all with Gee cognitively--she thinks he's ready for kindergarten right now, much less in another year. Yay!) Normally I would be all for that--all the kids at the same school, hooray!--but the preschool teacher is very hesitant to have "developmental" kids in the class. Part of me understands that (after all, Gee will probably be in diapers still, and there's the latex thing and the mobility thing, and the shunt thing freaks people out until they realize it's no big deal), and part of me is not happy with the idea of Gee being in a class with a teacher who has to be "forced" by the district to have him. I figure, he's going to have enough times in his life when he is made to feel like he is a burden, and I don't want it to start in preschool.
So--if we are given a choice, and I believe we will be, I'll ask that we are kept in the developmental preschool. If it is the busing that is too expensive for the district, well, I can take him to school almost as easy.
In the meantime, we gave lots of hugs and loves and little gifts to his teachers. Now, on to summer!
