Why is it so different when Number Two goes to school?Maybe it is because I already know what to expect. Maybe it is because she is so relaxed about it. Em is younger than Zee was, when he went to kindergarten, and yet she seems so much older.
That doesn't mean I didn't feel a little twinge when she headed into her classroom, with nary a backwards glance. "So long, Mom" was her attitude. She was ready to do this awesome thing.
And when we picked her up, she was bubbling with excitement. "Momma!" she exclaimed. "I didn't get even ONE cross-off." (The discipline system for kindergarten has to do with crossing off smiley faces.) "AND we chased a gingerbread man around the school, and came back to our classroom and we ATE gingerbread men!"
(And the evidence was smeared all over her shirt.)
She was so excited to go back today. And I am excited for her!
(At her evaluation Monday, she identified letters and sounds, counted to 19 (and then skipped directly to 100, ooookay), and READ a little book. I knew she could read lots of words, but she was reading words I didn't know she could. I'm a little ashamed that I didn't know she was such a good reader!)
