It's called a board shirt, and it's made out of thick swimsuit material to provide coverage from the sun. Em has such fair skin, and burns so easily, I thought it would be better to give her a little more cover. (Especially on the back and the shoulders, since those parts of her never see the sun unless she's swimming.)
Today was the first day of swimming lessons, with Zee and Em in regular classes and Gee and me in the Mommy-and-me class. In the rush to drop Hebs off at my sister's house and get to the pool with enough time to let Gee walk using his walker, I forgot sunblock.
No problem, I thought. First, it's been downright chilly the last week, and the sky was at least partially clouded. Second, swimming lessons are only 30 minutes long. Third, Zee and Gee have a more olive skin tone that doesn't burn very readily. And Em has her little board shirt. All will be well.
I forgot one small detail: me. I'm sure you see where I'm going with this.
Yes, I'm 32 years old, and I can't remember to apply sunblock to myself. Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm going to see if they sell board shirts in my size. And get some aloe vera.

Did you ever find this in your size? I have personally given up on regular swimsuits. It's a little scary when you can find a 2 piece that covers twice as much skin as the average 1 piece.
ReplyDeleteI actually did find it in my size...except it's $26.50 from Land's End instead of $8.50 from Children's Place. So...since it couldn't possibly get to me by the end of swimming lessons this week, and at most I'll be swimming maybe four more times this summer...I'm going to hold off and see if I can't get it on clearance in the late summer. For next summer, you know!
ReplyDeleteAnd I have to tell you--if you are willing to pay $60+ for a swimsuit (that will last YEARS; my old one lasted 12 years), you can get some amazing awesome ones from Land's End. That's where I got my new one this summer. It's part of their "swimshape" line, which basically pulls everything in, and it is SO amazing. I truly love it and hate that I have to cover up so I don't roast.
