Oquirrh Mountain Temple Open House

Today we went to the Oquirrh Mountain Temple Open House, in South Jordan. ("We" being me, my children, my sister LaDale (visiting from Colorado Springs), my sister Telima, her husband Tyler, and their two kids.) (Bradley was at work.) I made extra sure to take my camera, and then forgot all about pictures until we were back in the car and driving away. Brilliant. So, no picture of the group in front of the temple. (All pictures shown here are from the media tour of the temple, as published in the Church News.)

My older three loved the chandeliers in particular. ("Stars, Momma!" Gee whispers. "Sooo pretty!")

Em liked the baptistry. "Look, Mommy, they're BULLS!"

My favorite rooms (besides the chandeliers, because, oooh, bright and sparkly!) were the ordinance rooms--they have gorgeous murals.

While in the Celestial Room, Em told Aunt LaDale, "This one is my favorite!"

Zee told Aunt Telima that the reason we went to the temple open house was to make sure they built everything right. He decided that "they" had, in fact, done everything perfectly.

For the geologists among us, the temple seems to have a fossiliferous limestone interior and a light beige granite exterior. I actually liked that the temple was not bright white, as many are, because it seemed to harmonize quite nicely with the low mountains to the west.

Sick children prevented us from going to the temple open house in early June with all of Bradley's sisters' families, so I'm really glad that eventually we were able to go. I love to see the temple!

  1. So glad you were able to go. We went by each of those Temples last summer while they were under construction. It was moving then. Wonderful that your kids were able to see inside. I hope someday to take my kids through an open house.

  2. Open houses are so great! It shows the world-as well as the kiddos-that the temple doesn't have anything to hide-it is just so, so special. These are such important activities for our kids. i am sad you couldn't come thru with us.
