Bradley and I were scheduled to teach a class (for BYU continuing education, subject "New Media in the Classroom") on Monday and Tuesday of this week. My sister Telima and her husband Tyler were scheduled to watch my kids for the two days. Telima was scheduled to have a baby in four weeks.
Oh, the best laid plans!
Welcome to the family, baby Smithlet! (I don't have a good web nickname for her yet.) July 19, 2009, 9:15 pm, Utah Valley Regional Medical Center.
My sister has a history of giving birth early--her first was 2.5 weeks early, her second 3 weeks early. So I should have guessed this was a possibility. But, foolishly, I didn't. So, now, my husband will be teaching the class by himself; my mother will be driving up here tomorrow, and I will be watching six kids tomorrow.
Still--it is so wonderful that she is here and healthy! Like her older sister Kay, baby Smithlet had a two-vessel umbilical cord that was diagnosed at the 20-week ultrasound. Two-vessel cords are sometimes associated with birth defects and other scary stuff, so it is wonderful that she is here, she is healthy, and I'm an aunt again!
