Bili

We brought Mimi home from the hospital yesterday. The children were ecstatic to see us--Hebs and Gee in particular needed to sit on my lap for extended periods of time. Even now, Hebs will throw himself at me and cuddle for a moment, before resuming his regular meandering around the house.

Mimi's bilirubin levels were higher than the doctor liked, and so we have the Blue Box of Doom (the bili lights) again. (Hebs had similar problems but worse--he had to stay in the NICU for three days for light therapy, and then another four days on the bili lights at home.) Oh, how I HATE the bili lights. There is something thoroughly unnatural about not being able to hold your baby whenever you wish. She can come out for feedings, of course, but the rest of the time she's supposed to be under the lights. And she can't even be swaddled--all she is wearing is her little diaper. She doesn't like the feeling of freedom, not one bit.

Last night was less than fun, with much sadness and crying (oh, and Mimi was unhappy, too). Tonight probably will be the same.

But the good news? Her bili count went down, and her weight went up, and so we get to take her off the lights starting tomorrow evening. She'll have another bili check on Saturday morning, and then hopefully we will be done!

It is nice to be home.

  1. Erin had to be on the bili lights at home for over a week. It was SO frustrating to have her plugged into the wall all the time!

Patrick just missed light therapy. Actually if they'd been a tenth of a point higher they would have done it, but since they went down in a matter of hours that first day, they didn't.

Here's hoping she's done with it tomorrow morning!
