Crawling comes with many hazards--such as falling off the front step and skinning your cute little nose.)
Yum Yum is almost ten months old, and she is just exploding with new tricks every day.
On May 12, she finally started crawling--for real crawling.
The next day, she started sitting up on her own, in the funniest way possible. She would get into the crawling position, and start walking her hands backwards until she was almost upright and doing the splits. Then with a final push she would be straight up and down and swing her legs back in front of her. Awesome! (Except when she backed under a couch or table. Then the final push was usually accompanied by a bump on the head or back and a wail of displeasure.)
As with all babies, she was slow and cautious at first. Three weeks later, however, and she is just zipping around the house, happy as a little puppy dog. Nothing is safe from her, as her older siblings and cousins are learning to their sorrow. She especially has a taste for books--yum, yum!
This weekend, Grandma Ross taught her to pull herself up on low things--a box on the ground, the ottoman, her piano-toy. She hadn't quite figure out how to pull up on things that are significantly taller than her (the couch, the coffee table)...until tonight.
Tonight after I put her in her bed, I returned to her room a few minutes later to put some clean laundry away. There she was, my little Yum Yum, pulling herself up on the side of the crib. When she finally managed it, and was standing with her little head over the rail and her feet firmly planted on her mattress...she was so proud of herself. She looked at me with the biggest grin, as if to say, "Look at me, Momma! I'm so big!"
She is so big, I can hardly believe it. What a glorious girl!
