The rest of my garden box plants are not thriving yet (except the strawberries, yay!), probably because of the cold wet weather. Today it got warm, tomorrow will be even warmer, and it's likely we have actually turned the corner into summer. (Heaven help everyone who lives by a river, stream, creek, or unstable mountainside, though. Or even off where the groundwater is higher.)
Today Telima came over with her kids. Ever since they moved up to Salt Lake County, we've not seen each other as often as we would like. It's been since Mother's Day (!) since we've had a chance to hang out. (Of course, we spend at least an hour on the phone together most weekdays.)
Telima's oldest, Kay, and my Hebs have a special bond--we're not sure why, but they just love each other so much. Kay and Lala are also really good friends. Jay, my three-year-old nephew who has autism, enjoys my house as much as any place that isn't home, I imagine. Her youngest daughter, almost-two-year-old Bay, always takes the longest naps at my house. Telima thinks she just must love my crib or something. I think it's just my superior mothering skills, permeating throughout the house. That's possible, right?
Eleven kids, the oldest being nine, in our house was a little intense, but we sent kids outside or downstairs as needed. Everyone played pretty well together, although we had to referee a time or two. And when they had to go home, and I put Hebs and Yum-Yum down for their naps, having only six kids around seemed positively...restful.
For a moment, anyway.
